THE POLYTECHNIC IRESI HOLDS SIWES ORIENTATION PROGRAMME FOR STUDENTS

TPI PRESS CLUB

The Students Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES) of the Polytechnic Iresi has organized an orientation programme for students on their expectations and obligations to the scheme.

SIWES is a skill training programme designed to expose and prepare students of Polytechnics and other tertiary institutions for the industrial work situation they are likely to meet after graduation.

In his opening address, the new Ag. Rector of the Polytechnic Engr. (Dr.) Kamoru Olawatoyin Kadiri urged the students to put in their best during the industrial training programme which will last for four months, in order to enhance their cumulative grade because the programme is a four-unit compulsory course on its own which must be passed by all the students before graduation.

The Ag. Rector, Engr. (Dr.) Kadiri giving the opening speech

The Rector who is an erudite scholar and also a product of Polytechnic education from the Polytechnic, Ibadan as a student and also as a former HOD in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, who also served as a former Dean, School of Engineering and Technology at The Federal Polytechnic Offa, Kwara State laid emphasis on the mandate of the SIWES programme which is to bridge the existing gap between theoretical knowledge acquired from the institution and real practice in the industrial world. Engr. (Dr.) Kadiri also affirmed to the students that they will be made to defend what they have learnt in their place of attachment on returning to school and he appealed to the students to be good ambassadors of the Polytechnic Iresi.

The Polytechnic Director of SIWES programme, Mr. Salawu Mutiudeen Adetayo in his speech accustomed the students on the purposes of the programme. He emphasized that the SIWES is as important as any other departmental courses being offered in all the departments. Mr. Salawu during his presentation explained thoroughly to the students the uses of the SIWES logbook and also how they can fill it appropriately on weekly and monthly bases. The director also charged the students to represent the Polytechnic well in the scheme as their industrial supervisors will give comments on the various tasks done by them, as well as their attitudes and behaviors during the scheme on a provided section of the logbook.

Also speaking at the event, the Assistant Director of TPI SIWES programme, Mr. Tella Obaloluwa Ademuyiwa encouraged the students of active participation during the programme. He explained to the students the necessary steps to be taken before, during and after the SIWES programme.

Present during the SIWES orientation were the Ag. Registrar of the Polytechnic, Mr. Sanni Lasisi Omotayo, the Dean School of Management Studies, Mr. Odejide Olusola Stephen and all SIWES coordinators across various departments.
